People are being asked to nominate who they would like to see open Dereham Day next month.

The organisers of this year's event are hoping for a young hero to raise the curtain on the day’s proceedings and are asking for people in Dereham to nominate who they would like to see get their moment in the spotlight.

The event, which is returning for a second year following a hugely successful debut, takes place on Saturday, May 13 at the Dereham Memorial Hall and the Fleece Meadow.

Last year, George Freeman, MP for Mid Norfolk, officially launched Dereham Day before a packed programme of demonstrations, activities and entertainment got underway.

Tim Cara is chair of Friends of Dereham Memorial Hall, which is organising the day for the aboutDereham partnership alongside Paul Sandford.

He said: “Can you nominate a young local hero to open this year’s Dereham Day?

"We are looking for someone aged under 20 years who performs outstanding service to our community.  Text up to 30 words to 07432 091044 before midnight on Sunday, May 7 to enter.”
