A world record holder is inviting people along to beat to the sound of their own drum.

Janel Spalding is running a 12-hour drumathon at JDT Music Academy, on the Rashes Green Industrial Estate, Dereham, on Monday May 8 to raise funds for its BigBuild.

The music academy is aiming to raise funds for renovations to the entrance way and toilets, the addition of a new teaching space and a new rehearsal space in which the academy hopes to provide some exciting new regular community events - as well as the big goal, to build its dream vegan community café.

Janel, who was part of the group which claimed the world record for the longest drumming marathon by a team, is running the 12-hour event from 8am to 8pm, and anyone is invited to come along and take part.

The academy will provide the drum kits, which will be set up and ready to play, and you can bring your friends, family, and colleagues along to jam together - with your choice of whether to play for one hour or the full 12 - and you don't even have to know how to play.

You’ll be talked through the whole process and get you up and running in no time, with 10 drummers drumming along with all together.

The drumathon is asking for a donation of £11 per hour from each participant (the same cost as one of Janel's KitFit sessions). 100pc of the proceeds will go to the Friends of JDT Music Academy fund for the BigBuild.

Work is already well underway for the BigBuild Project, with a new storage space, teaching room and staff room complete. The next phase commences in June and will see the addition of a brand new, fully accessible entranceway as well as a much-needed toilet revamp.
