Angry and devastated is how Trisha Morton was left feeling after she was denied the chance to buy her social housing...which has now been put up for sale.

Mrs Morton, 54, lived on Wellingham Road in Litcham, near Dereham, in a Flagship housing association home for 17 years.

She said she had spent four years trying to buy the property, but was repeatedly told no by Flagship even though she had the money for it.

Mrs Morton and her husband Steve moved out in April when they bought a house in Sporle, and just three months later she spotted her old home up for sale on Rightmove.

“I cannot believe it," she said.

"It feels so unfair because it was mine and my children’s home, and not being able to buy it feels like a kick in the teeth.

“I watched my children grow up there, found a husband, and build a life there."

But a Flagship spokesman said Mrs Morton qualified for neither the Right to Buy nor Right to Acquire schemes.

The spokesman said: "Additionally, when Mrs Morton expressed her interest to purchase the property, we had no plans to sell it at that time.

"We assess all our properties when they become empty, and after Mrs Morton had moved out, we identified that the home required a significant level of investment. Therefore, we made the difficult decision to sell."

Mrs Morton was originally moved into temporary accommodation in 2006 escaping a relationship.

She was moved into Wellingham Road with her primary school-aged children a few months later.

Mrs Morton said: “If Flagship were putting someone in who needed a property, like I did all those years ago, I would not mind.

“It did us the world of good and I hoped it would’ve done for them. But to find it’s for sale, and that an organisation can treat people like that...I am lost for words."
