Councils across Norfolk have been awarded for offering support to dogs and their owners during the cost of living crisis.

Animal Warden Services, based in Dereham, works with councils across the county to help keep dogs safe.

The wardens have announced that several councils have been awarded by the RSPCA for the very high standards of service, care and love provided to people and their pets.

Breckland Council was given a platinum award - while Broadland District Council, North Norfolk District Council, Norwich City Council, South Norfolk District Council, and Great Yarmouth Council were all handed gold awards.

Lee Gingell, the RSPCA’s public affairs manager for local government, said: “Despite the challenging situation for all local authorities and public bodies across the country, we’re thrilled to see the councils all pick up an RSPCA’s Stray Dog Services PawPrints Award.

“It’s a tough time for pet owners as the cost of living crisis continues, and a tough time too for local authorities and public bodies as demands increase and resources decline.

"We’re proud to recognise the councils as part of the awards for implementing and promoting schemes and policies that protect and promote animal welfare, and support pet owners - now more important than ever.

“From delivering events and providing information to promote responsible pet ownership to offering free or low-cost microchipping and neutering services and policies to protect animals during emergency situations, there’s so much great work that staff do behind the scenes.

"Too often, their dedication, commitment, and inspirational work goes unsung and doesn’t get the credit it deserves.

“We’re delighted to showcase Animal Warden Services and the above councils for their work to protect and promote animal welfare.

"Going above and beyond for animals and looking way past statutory minimums because it’s the right thing to do."
