A popular town pub is set to close its doors for a major refurbishment.

The Gemini in Dereham will close its doors at 5pm on September 10 for just under a month for the transformation.

The interior refit comes alongside plans to make over the garden as well.

The exterior of the business on Sandy Lane will also be addressed, in a project that is costing its owners, Greene King, 'a six-figure' sum.

Beverley Rae, the pub's general manager, said she was thrilled she and her staff would soon be welcoming customers inside a new-look pub.

She said: “The redevelopment of the Gemini is amazing, and we're all excited.

“We have a lot of support from Greene King, and this refurb has been in the works for over a year."

Mrs Rae took over as manager at the Gemini in July, having worked in the pub previously, as well as other locals across Dereham, including the Railway Tavern and the Cock.

“Most of my career has been with Greene King, so coming in as a new manager and living in the town for so long I know the locals and the community and they are all on board and excited to see this happen to the pub,” she said.

The pub will reopen on October 7.

The ribbon will be cut, and live music will be played on that Saturday evening. The next day the pub will host a family fun day with children's entertainment, more live music and a performance by the Galaxy Twirlers baton twirling and pom team.

Sponsors including Dereham Cricket Club will also join in the festivities.
