Anyone going through Dereham town centre might have through they have gone back in time when they saw the sign pointing to Fakenham and Holt was also telling them how to get to the town’s swimming pool.

But there are some problems with this direction - the pool was closed in 2007, has since been demolished and has seen houses built over the land where it once stood.

Dereham Times: The swimming pool’s name has reappeared on the sign on Market Place in Dereham - the pool closed back in 2007The swimming pool’s name has reappeared on the sign on Market Place in Dereham - the pool closed back in 2007 (Image: Aaron McMillan)Looking at Google Maps from 2008, it appears that the swimming pool’s name was covered up on the sign on Market Place but over the years, that blanking has been removed, and now the pool's direction is clear once more.

A spokesperson for Norfolk County Council said: “We are aware of the issue with this sign in Dereham.

"Where changes in local services render signs that are otherwise in good condition inaccurate, we take steps to blank off the wording that is no longer relevant.

“In this case, it appears that the blanking has recently been removed. We have spoken to our contractors and the blanking will be restored in the coming days, to ensure the sign remains both relevant and accurate.”
