A former bicycle workshop in a Norfolk town has been taken up a gear as it is transformed into a new bakery.

Joanne and Simon Chipperfield took over The Reepham Station Café in August 2020, which is next to the town's disused railway station that closed to passengers in 1952.

It backs onto the Marriott's Way, a 26-mile path that follows the routes of two former railway lines from Norwich to Aylsham, making it a popular pitstop for walkers and cyclists.

The couple have now added another string to their bow and they took on a unit at the same site last November, which was previously a cycle workshop.

After a refurbishment, this has now opened as The Station Bakery, with Fakenham-based family business Krusty Loaf supplying the shop with fresh bread.

Also available are a range of homemade cakes, sausage rolls and pasties, with breakfast ciabattas served from 8am and hot meat ciabattas on offer from 11am.

Mr Chipperfield said: "We wanted to launch the bakery to supply the café, which has become very busy, so we can make more things in-house.

"We haven't got a big enough building to bake the bread so Nick Henry and his team at Krusty Loaf are supplying us with fresh bread daily.

"We wanted to create a shop offering really good quality produce at reasonable prices and the reaction has been amazing so far.

Milly and Emma, who were previously at a tearoom in Holt, make the delicious cakes sold in The Station Bakery.

Mr and Mrs Chipperfield also run the Norfolk Farm Shop & Deli in Reepham.

The current opening hours for The Station Bakery are 8am to 2.30pm (closed Wednesdays and Sundays).
