Dereham pub the Railway Tavern joins Just Eat for deliveries

But one Dereham pub landlord is hoping that is not the case as he launches a delivery service.

Paul Sandford at the Railway Tavern has started delivering fish and chips.

He has reported a modest start - but Mr Sandford said this is more about establishing the trade before the busier months.

“It is something we have dipped in and out of because of the lockdowns, no one could get to us and it was really popular. It declined rapidly with the return to normality,” he said.

“We wanted to give it a proper go, and needed to have drivers on board, that's why we have decided to partner with Just Eat to get it off the ground. Most people know how its platform works.

"We’ve had a steady start and wanted to do it now to get it running smoothly and to get it ready in anticipation of the busy months ahead.

“We are working to iron out any kinks that might appear when starting a new venture, there is a method to my madness.”

He also stressed it's there for people who cannot get to the pub to collect their food, whether because of mobility or bad weather.

He added: “This is about offering a service to Dereham and the surrounding villages which we believe needs to be done, I saw the need during the pandemic.

"Plus, right now people are not jumping in their cars as often because of the cost of living, so we need to provide for people.

“We are optimistic about this new venture, in business doing something new there is pressure to make it successful but we all like a challenge, we wouldn't be here if we didn't.”
