An amateur footballer has spoken of his pride that more than £100,000 has been raised for charities from matches over the past decade.

The Plunkys All Stars Football Match has been a yearly fundraising event since 2014.

Steve Plunkett, the event organiser and keen player, has his sights set on raising £25,000 to push donations from the last 10 years well over the £100,000 mark.

This year's match is in honour of Carl Mills, a firefighter who took his own life in 2022.

All donations and money raised will go towards the Fire Fighters Charity, Norfolk and Waveney Mind, and East Anglian Air Ambulance.

When asked about what it means to bring together this annual event, Mr Plunkett said he was "really proud" of what it had become.

"But initially, I just wanted to raise some money for Priscilla Bacon and have a good evening.

"There will be five of us playing who played in the very first match," he said.

The final match will be held on June 28 at the FDC, in Bowthorpe.

"I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who's playing this year.

"I'd also like to thank the individuals who have donated to our causes. There are also companies that have reached out to us year on year, which is just staggering.

"Also thanks to everyone who travels from all over for this event. We have one guy coming in from Ireland, so it's really great to see."

The match also promises to be more than a 90-minute game. Mr Plunkett added that the evening will include exciting auction prizes, as well as the "world's best raffle".

Kick off is at 6.30pm, and visitors will be asked to pay a small entrance fee.
