The man in his 60s who died in a crash last week was a retired army major, Norfolk Coroner's Court has heard.

William Craig died on Friday, May 31, when his Vauxhall Adam crashed into the rear of a parked lorry. He was 67.

An inquest into his death opened at County Hall, during which details of the tragic incident were heard.

Area coroner Samantha Goward told the court Mr Craig had been driving on the Mattishall Road in East Tuddenham, near Dereham, when his vehicle collided into the rear of a lorry.

She said that witnesses had frantically attempted CPR until an ambulance crew arrived, but Mr Craig died at the scene.

She added that Mr Craig was born in Liverpool, but lived in Wymondham and was a retired army major.

The provisional medical cause of his death was given as multiple traumatic injuries as a result of a road traffic collision.

Mrs Goward adjourned the hearing for a full inquest, which will be held on December 10 with an estimated time of two hours.
