Vandals have been covering properties in a Norfolk village with rude graffiti.

Mattishall, near Dereham, has been hit by vandalism a number of times over recent weeks.

Vandals have been leaving cars, fences and other properties covered in expletives, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The latest incident happened on Thursday night when the village's golf club was targeted among other properties and vehicles on South Green and Common Road.

Staff at Mattishall Golf Club found black spray paint had been used to cover a sign at the club.

Debbie Bales, the club's owner, described the incident as "frustrating".

She said: "It's hard enough at the moment for people with the cost of living and now there's this to deal with."

He said: "It happened about two weeks ago on a Wednesday night. They covered everything in spray paint.

"By the time it came to removing it all, the total cost was just under £24,000."

Mr Eden also said the incidents are becoming a concern for those living in the village.

He said: "It's a quiet and lovely place and nothing like this happens really.

"There are elderly people who live here who are now worried about what will happen at night."

A spokeswoman for the Norfolk police: "We are investigating a number of incidents of criminal damage, specifically graffiti, in the Mattishall area over the past few weeks."

They are appealing for members of the public who have information to contact them, quoting the crime reference CAD 101.
