The role for the Toftwood ward became available when Kendra Cogman stood down as councillor to focus on her new role as leader of Breckland Council's Labour Group.

Voters have the choice between two candidates - Adam Birks or Robert Ian Jamieson.

Mr Birks was nominated by Ms Cogman and is a Labour representative.

Mr Jamieson was nominated by Robin Hunter-Clarke, who recently defected from the Conservatives to join Nigel Farage's Reform party.

There will be two polling stations - one at Dereham Scout Haven 2nd Toftwood Scouts in South Green and one at the Toftwood Social Club on Shipdham Road.

They will be open between 7am and 10pm.

Swaffham, a neighbouring town, also recently held a by-election which led to the town council being criticised after less than 6pc of its population turned out to vote.
