Police are hunting for a driver after a woman died in a hit-and-run crash on a busy Norfolk road.

The woman, who was in her 50s, is thought to have been hit by a vehicle travelling eastbound on the A47 in Dereham late on Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.

Police say the driver failed to stop at the scene, and an investigation is under way to locate them.

The woman's body was found at around 12.30am on Wednesday by a member of the public, and the busy route was subsequently closed for around 11 hours following the discovery.

A police spokeswoman said: “We'd encourage anyone who may have driven along the A47 in Dereham late on Tuesday night (16 September) and who may have relevant dashcam footage to contact police.

“We'd also like to hear from anyone who may have seen the woman near the road prior to the collision.

“She was wearing a purple top with a burgundy fluffy jacket, black trousers, a black beanie style hat and black Adidas shoes.”
