People across Breckland are being encouraged to take advantage of the district council’s leisure centres and outdoor spaces to work towards a New Year goal to “get fit for '26.”
Breckland Council is reminding the community of the variety of activities available, including swimming, gym sessions, group exercise classes, and free or low-cost options at home or in a park.
Councillor Tristan Ashby, the council’s executive member for health and communities, said: “Many residents will be inspired to improve their health and wellbeing as we go into the New Year, so I hope they will look to the excellent leisure facilities and beautiful open spaces we have available in our district to support them to achieve their goals.
“Whether you enjoy the energy of our leisure centres or prefer free activities you can do at home or in the park, there’s an activity for everyone that can boost your fitness in the new year.
"Getting active doesn’t have to be complicated – small steps can make a big difference."
Leisure centre users can choose from swimming sessions, strength training in fully equipped gyms, or group classes designed to motivate and connect the community.
For those who prefer the outdoors or a more budget-friendly approach, Breckland’s parks and green spaces offer ideal settings for running, cycling, dog walking, or hiking.
At-home options such as gardening, yoga, skipping, or dance workouts also provide easy ways to stay active without extra cost.
Breckland Council remains committed to supporting healthier, more active lifestyles and encourages everyone to find enjoyable ways to keep moving throughout 2026.
The council advises residents to consult a doctor before starting or significantly increasing physical activity, especially those with existing health conditions.
