A water company boss has promised a 'thorough review' is due to get under way after a burst main left hundreds of homes without water.

Girling Road in Dereham was flooded on Sunday, May 24, causing an outage across the town.

Many locals said they had no water or low water pressure as temperatures reached highs of 31C.

Anglian Water confirmed that the water supply was restored to properties on Tuesday, May 26.

Mark Thurston, the firm's chief executive, has now asked the company team involved to conduct a thorough review.

In an email on his behalf posted to Facebook, this is "in order to establish what went wrong and how we can improve our handling of similar incidents going forward."

Those living in Becclesgate, Etling View, Fox Road, Highfields, Moorgate, Northgate, Oak Road, Quebec Road, Sandy Lane, and Theatre Street reported having issues.

Homes in Gressenhall and Swanton Morley were also impacted by the outage.

Anglian Water previously said the main burst again after initial repairs, causing "further disruption" and making the situation "more complex than expected."

The company apologised to affected customers.
