Young fathers are enjoying a newly transformed garden.

The garden, at a supported housing property in Dereham run by The Benjamin Foundation, had become severely overgrown and unusable, limiting residents and their children from spending time outside together.

Matthew Gardening Maintenance Services, a local business, stepped in to help by donating their time and expertise to clear and restore the space.

Matthew, from Matthew Gardening Maintenance Services, said: "We try and help every customer get the best out of their space, and now the boys can look after their garden independently.

"We’re happy to have been able to help some young lads enjoy their time with their kids.

"As a stepfather myself I can understand how important it is for kids to see their dad and enjoy time outside."

The team also installed secure fencing along the property boundary, using materials donated by MKM Building Supplies.

In addition to the garden makeover, the business has offered to continue supporting the young fathers by teaching them how to care for the garden themselves.

Lauren Gordon, fundraising officer at The Benjamin Foundation, said: "This project is about much more than tidying up a garden.

"Having access to a clean, safe and welcoming outdoor space can make a huge difference to our young people’s wellbeing, family relationships and self-confidence.

"For these dads, it creates opportunities to spend quality time with their children, make memories together and take pride in where they live."

The foundation has thanked Matthew and his team for their "kindness, generosity and commitment" to supporting young people in the community.

A spokesperson said: "Their support has not only transformed a physical space but has also helped create opportunities for learning, independence, and stronger family connections."

The Benjamin Foundation provides supported, affordable accommodation for young people who are vulnerably housed or have experienced homelessness.
