Police urge caution when interpreting the data as crime locations on Police.uk are approximate, to the nearest pre‑defined map point.
This means an offence recorded as "on or near" may have occurred anywhere within the catchment area of that point, not necessarily on the street itself.
A large number of offences were also reported in places such as supermarkets, petrol stations, and parking areas, but these were excluded from the dataset due to not corresponding with specific street names.
