Steam train services at a heritage railway will remain suspended amid ongoing fire risks during the prolonged dry weather.

The Mid Norfolk Railway has confirmed it is continuing with the suspension of steam operations as the dry conditions have "significantly increased" risk of lineside fires.

It first introduced the measure last week and it was expected to last a few days.

A spokesman for the railway said: "While we know many of our visitors enjoy the sight, sound and atmosphere of steam trains, the safety of our local communities, neighbouring landowners and the surrounding countryside must come first.

"The ongoing dry conditions have significantly increased the risk of lineside fires.

"As a responsible neighbour, we believe it is important to take a precautionary approach until conditions improve.

"This decision reflects our commitment to protecting the landscape through which our railway runs and supporting the efforts of our already stretched local fire service."

Diesel services will continue to run as scheduled, allowing visitors to still enjoy a day out on the railway.

The railway team said they would continue to monitor weather conditions and update the public through their website and social media channels.

"We look forward to welcoming our steam locomotives back into service as soon as it is safe and appropriate to do so," the spokesman added.
