A cricket club is looking to raise £30,000 to build a new, high-quality training facility.

Dereham Cricket Club has launched a Crowdfunder campaign to pay for the project.

The money would go towards a cricket net facility, which would help "enhance training opportunities for players of all ages".

A spokesman for the club said it will also provide "a safe, high-quality practice environment".

They added: "The new facility will provide a dedicated training area for Dereham Cricket Club's senior and junior sections, increasing training capacity, supporting player development, and reducing pressure on the main playing square.

"The facility will also be available for coaching programmes, school partnerships, community cricket initiatives, and recreational use, ensuring long-term benefit to the wider Dereham community.

"The investment will create a lasting asset for the club, helping to grow participation in cricket and improve the quality of coaching and practice opportunities for current and future members".

The club was founded more than 100 years ago in 1856 and is described as "an important sporting and social hub" for the community in Dereham.

It offers competitive and recreational cricket opportunities for players of all ages as well as multiple senior and junior teams, coaching, and player development programmes.

The funding would be allocated towards groundworks, preparing the site, durable cricket netting, all-weather artificial practice wickets and run-ups, fencing, access improvements, project management, and delivery costs among other things.

The club spokesman added: "The project will deliver significant benefits to the local community by increasing access to sport, improving health and wellbeing, and creating opportunities for people of all ages to participate in cricket".

So far, the club has raised a total of £1,845 towards the project.
