A group that campaigns for people with disabilities in the Dereham area has marked its 20th anniversary by paying tribute to the work of both its founder chairman and the man who has been at its helm for the past nine years.

Julian King has stepped down as chairman of the Dereham & District Access Group and was elected vice-chairman and treasurer, with founder chairman Jean Rowe returning to the chairman's role. Kate Wyatt was re-elected as secretary with Alan Mackim as policy officer.

Mr Mackim led the tributes at the group's annual meeting on Thursday to Mrs Rowe and Mr King. He said Mr King had done the group proud during his time as chairman. "Julian really does make things work," he added.

Mrs Rowe said she was happy to step into her old post of chairman with Mr King's support as vice-chairman. "I have been impressed by all that has been achieved by the group in recent years, particularly by the hard work and commitment of very many people in recent years. I now look forward to working with you all in the coming year," she said.

The group hopes to produce a leaflet to highlight the changes it has brought about in the town since its formation 20 years ago.
