As reported in the Times last week, Shipdham Aero Club had applied to change the use of farmland next to Shipdham Aerodrome for a grass runway and a hangar and storage building.
An independent consultant had described the plans as “a recipe for an accident” and there had been widespread opposition from planning officers, parish councillors and residents.
There were concerns about safety, noise and extra traffic.
The application was due to have been discussed on Monday by Breckland's development control committee.
But at the start of the meeting, the council's development services manager Phil Daines said: “It has been completely withdrawn and will not be coming back to committee.”
No reasons were given why the application had been withdrawn.
