The Bishop of Norwich will tonight lead celebrations to mark the completion of a 240,000 restoration project at a medieval Norfolk church.

St Mary The Virgin Church at Beeston-next-Mileham near Dereham dates back to the early 1400s and the restoration of its hammerbeam nave roof was awarded the prestigious 2010 Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings John Betjamin Award.

The Rt Rev Graham James will preach at a service of thanksgiving and re-dedication tonight at 7pm - fittingly on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Representatives from English Heritage and the Norfolk Churches Trust will be at the service, as will architect Ruth Blackman.

Jill Scott, lay chairman of the Parochial Church Council, said: 'After five years where we have had scaffolding and blue plastic in the main part of the church, it is wonderful to have this gem of a church back to its full glory.

'This service of thanksgiving is for the restoration work which has been done and the generosity of people who have given towards it.

'We are delighted that the celebrant is the Bishop of Norwich,'
