Movie magic will soon be brought to community venues across Breckland as the district prepares to host a film festival starting next month.
Instead of having to travel to large cinema multiplexes, people will be able to watch films closer to home in village halls and other local buildings thanks to Breckland Film Festival 2010.
And Norfolk-based author Louis de Berni�res, who wrote Captain Corelli's Mandolin, will open the festival when it kicks off with Slumdog Millionaire at Hockham Village Hall, in Great Hockham, on Friday, February 5.
The rest of the festival includes a wide variety of films ranging from the 2009 French drama Coco before Chanel to the 1956 musical The King and I.
The festival is funded by Breckland Council, and the screenings will be run by local people, known as the festival promoters, who were recruited last year through a series of training workshops funded by Breckland Council and delivered by Creative Arts East.
Theresa Hewett, Breckland Council's executive member for communities, said: 'Breckland is a very rural district so many residents have to travel a long way to enjoy a film, and some are not able to do so.'
