Residents living near Dereham's Neatherd Moor are calling for speed bumps to be installed on the road going through the open space because of growing concerns about the safety of pedestrians.

They say a recent increase in traffic, and the speed which it travels at, poses a threat to young children and dogs not closely supervised.

Carol Barnes, 59, of Crown Road, says she is now scared to take her two-year-old granddaughter Tabatha walking because of the frequency and speed of cars that travel through the moor.

She said: 'It's a danger to dogs and children, when I take Tabatha out I am scared of what will happen.

'The Neatherd is a nice open area and it's the only area we've got to let the dogs go - but now we're scared we're going to get run over.'

Tony Needham, clerk for Dereham Town Council, said the council would examine at committee the need for traffic calming measures if a formal request is lodged.

He added that he would approach regular users of the route and outline the need to keep to the 20mph speed limit.
