More than 60 people went to a meeting about how the authorities are dealing with problems of anti-social behaviour in Toftwood and nuisance car driving in Dereham town centre last week.

The two areas were picked by the public as the top priorities for the town's police two months at a meeting of the Community Action Group in January.

On Wednesday night they were told what had been done about the issues.

Toftwood: Patrols by police at peak times, use of 'stop and account' forms tracking activity of youngsters, reassurance visits, arrest of once youngster with another on bail, in some cases of criminal damage Amber management Company has asked parents to pay for the damage, work with private landlords, a street youth briefing planned and covert operations planned to get evidence for prosecutions.

A newsletter is also to be produced to update people and anyone interested in a Home Watch scheme can contact Colin Hodge on 01842 222608.

Nuisance drivers: Patrols have been held, a number of vehicles have been seized, CCTV has been used to catch drivers, anti-social behaviour letters have been issued to drivers reported to the police by the public and special constables are being trained to use speed radar guns in the area so they can issue fixed penalty notices to those speeding.

People at the meeting said there were still ongoing problems especially in Crown Road.

CAG meetings involve the police safer neighbourhood team, Breckland Council and other agencies and are there for local people to raise any issues they have concerning them. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 13 at Breckland Council offices.
