Lives lost during the First World War are to be commemorated in a Norfolk field, after councillors gave plans the go ahead.
Councillors at Norfolk County Council Business and Property Committee agreed today to transfer around four acres of land to Brisley Parish Council, so it can be transformed into a Field of Dedication, marking 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Councillor Keith Kiddie, chair of the committee, said: 'This year is the 100th anniversary of the end of the war so it is fitting that we should be transforming this site into a Field of Dedication to honour all those who lost their lives during this time.'
Brisley Parish Council has occupied the whole site since 1919, therefore a Deed of Dedication can be signed directly between the Parish council and the National Playing Fields Association who run the Centenary Fields programme.
The programme has been created to safeguard war memorial parks, playing fields and other green spaces in memory of those who lost their lives in the First World War.
