It was another lovely 1940s event at Whitwell and Reepham Railway.

Despite the weather, hundreds of people joined those in period costume last weekend to celebrate the stoic way those left at home during the Second World War kept up morale during the conflict.

Spokesman Nanette Parfitt said: 'Outside were displays of military vehicles ranging from motorbikes, jeeps and an ambulance, whilst a London bus proved a popular attraction.

'The rain didn't stop most people from enjoying a trip on the carriage pulled by Victory, our aptly named steam engine.

'In The Sidings, stalls displayed actual and reproduction clothing and artefacts from the period, whilst customers were served with delicious roast lunches - way beyond a week's food coupons! All this to a backdrop of wartime music played outside the station building which really did play its part in both world wars with the movement of troops.'
