Pupils at a Dereham school have been helping to raise funds for fellow children in Haiti.

Youngsters from Dereham Church Infant School and Nursery took part in a non-uniform day on Friday, January 22 and collected 276 for the international children's charity UNICEF.

The year two class also organised and led an assembly on the same day which included them thinking of a sentence to go with each letter of the words Help for Haiti.

Headteacher Karen Gay said: 'I was very impressed with both the children's generosity and also the compassion they showed towards the people of Haiti. Children as young as four wanted to go to Haiti to try and help the other children.'

She added: 'Many children exceeded the suggested 1 donation; we were surprised to find 5 and 10 notes. A boy told me that he was bringing his pocket money as well as the 1 his mum would give him.'
