A car which crashed into a home killing a passenger was being followed by police, it has emerged.One man in his 20s was killed and the 22-year-old driver was injured when the silver coloured hatchback type car they were in smashed into a building in the small village of Foulsham between Dereham and Aylsham.

One man in his 20s was killed and the 22-year-old driver was injured when the silver coloured hatchback type car they were in smashed into a building in the small village of Foulsham between Dereham and Aylsham.

The pair had been travelling along the Norwich to Fakenham road when they passed a police car.

It is understood the police car then started to follow the car but did not catch up with it and then came upon its wreck in the High Street in Foulsham.

Investigators from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) have now been brought in to assess the incident.

The IPCC have to be called by local police forces whenever there is an incident involving police which results in a death or serious injury.

A spokesman for the IPCC said they were aware of the crash and that an assessment was being carried out.

They will decide if an investigation needs to be carried out or not.

The 22-year-old driver of the car is being treated for his injuries at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. A sample of his blood is being tested for alcohol.

Details of the deceased will not be released until next of kin has been informed.
