Dereham Carnival 2018: More than 10,000 attend town’s carnival celebrations

Thousands of people descended on a mid-Norfolk market town to celebrate its third carnival parade since its revival.

Organisers estimated that more than 10,000 people came to Sunday's event, which kicked off with a well attended pre-party at Dereham Baptist Church.

Ahead of the parade, a group of keen runners attemped the carnival's first ever fun run.

And they were soon followed by the parade, led by the town's mascot Biscuit the Deer.

Carnival chairman Kerry Doyle said she thought the weather had helped to make the event one of the best years yet.

'There isn't a day in the year that goes by when the committee isn't working on this event,' she said.

'It's been a proud day to see all the work which goes into it, come together.'

Awarded first place in the parade was the 1st Shipham Brownies and 1st Shipdham Guides carnival float, desgined around votes for women.
