Town councillors Dereham have welcomed plans for a new Indian restaurant and takeaway despite saying the town centre has too many fast food outlets.

The town council's planning committee was discussing a plan by Mohammed Ali to change the former Dereham Glass showroom at 2 London Road into an Indian restaurant and takeaway.

But as the proposal is not right in the town centre, it was deemed a good idea.

The committee had no objections to the Theatre Royal Surgery seeking planning permission to keep a portable building which houses its podiatry and chiropody service and therapy sessions.

The practice has had the building at its premises in Theatre Street for the past five years after the partners realised they needed extra space to cope with increasing patient numbers and need to renew planning permission.
