MORE than 300 year five primary school pupils from the Dereham cluster of schools and their teachers visited Dereham Neatherd High School on two days for the languages event, Get Set for the Olympics.

Primary languages co-ordinator and organiser of the event, Jo Ahrenfelt, said: 'We decided for the Olympic Games to be the theme of our summer primary languages event, which was rather aptly but coincidently taking place on the same day that the Olympic flame was to be carried through Norfolk!

'So through our event it did come to Dereham after all. We believe that this amazing sporting and cultural festival provides a special opportunity to enrich language teaching and learning.'

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to visit different continents and learn about a selection of languages and cultures.

After the opening ceremony, activities included a European market and French caf where students could practise speaking French, German, Spanish and Italian, Chinese language and craft lessons, an African song, rhythm and dance session and an ICT session where students could create their own cartoon strip promoting London 2012.
