Two elderly men had to be released from their car and taken to hospital after a head-on crash today.

The driver of a Suzuki Baleno suffered a suspected broken leg and broken arm and had to be flown to hospital by air ambulance following the collision with a Toyota Yaris on the A1075 between Shipdham and Watton at Crowshill at about 1pm.

His passenger sustained a suspected broken hip and went to hospital by land ambulance,

Two fire crews from Dereham and an emergency tender from Norwich worked to free the two men, believed to be from the Lowestoft area.

The Suzuki was travelling towards Shipdham and ended up against trees so the driver had to be freed first before the passenger could be released.

A young woman driving the Toyota - travelling towards Watton and thought to be from the Thetford area - suffered minor injuries.

Shortly after the crash there was another collision nearby involving a Mini Cooper and a BMW 318 which were both travelling towards Shipdham. No-one in the vehicles was seriously injured.

The road was shut for about three hours after the crashes and traffic had to be diverted.
