Dereham's New Year's resolution is to gain Fairtrade status.

The town is hoping to meet the five requirements needed in order be called Fairtrade.

Already the town council has passed a resolution supporting Fairtrade and serves Fairtrade coffee and tea at meetings in its offices and canteens, as well as setting up a Fairtrade group to ensure commitment to the status.

The remaining three targets are to make a range of Fairtrade products readily available in the area's shops, encourage local cafes and catering establishments to use Fairtrade products and get community groups and businesses to use the products.

Fairtrade fortnight will be running from February 25 to March 9 with a stand in the library.

On Wednesday February 27 from 9am to 4pm at the library there will be a healthy living day with taster sessions and information about the benefits of using and buying Fairtrade products.

On Friday February 29 from 10am to 12pm at the town council's Assembly Rooms there will be experts, crafts people and films offering advice on Fairtrade products or becoming a Fairtrade business.
