People young and old and their canine chums had a great afternoon in North Elmham today at the garden fete and fun dog show which was raising funds for St Mary's Church.

Best trick and dog with most character were among the categories our four legged friends competed in, and North Elmham School pupils also took centre stage with a special performance at the fete. A vintage bus gave free rides and people enjoyed everything from guessing the weight of the cake to pitching the bale to throwing for the whisky.

Susanna Wade-Martins, events committee chairman, said: 'Hundreds of people came to the fete. It was a fantastic day. After the Elmham Festival it is one of the most important community events here. We have had a garden fete for more than 40 years.'
