The organiser of an event held to showcase the success stories of a north Norfolk town has thanked the hundreds of businesses and attendees for the "fantastic" day.

The first Fakenham Fayre was held in the town’s Market Place, on Saturday, March 30, from 10am to 4pm, and saw “hundreds and hundreds of people” enjoying the sunny weather, food market, and live performances on offer.

Organiser Liam O’Sullivan, who owns the Gallery Bistro, said: “It went very well - it was fantastic.

“We were very lucky with the weather, and had hundreds and hundreds of people attend.

“I would say a good couple of thousand throughout the day.”

Mr O’Sullivan, who had the idea for the event in November 2018, added: “All the businesses, groups, and organisations invited have all attended - their support has been amazing.”

The event saw performers, including the 30-strong Fakenham Ukeleles group and local singer Gary Winter, entertain the crowds in the Market Place.

And stalls from more than 40 key Fakenham businesses and education providers showcased their work to passersby.

Some of the town’s biggest name businesses were involved, including: Bill Cleyndert & Company Ltd; Jack Richards & Son; PMC Harvesters Ltd; Kinnerton Confectionary; AOT Engineering; and P4, while representatives from Tesco and Morrisons also attended.

“The whole point was to invite people in the town to celebrate what all the great businesses are doing,” said Mr O’Sullivan.

“Their family and friends can celebrate their success and be proud of them.”

He added: “I thought we couldn’t do it before Christmas because everyone’s so busy.

“We launched it in January by going around and telling people about it and giving them the information.

“It’s just grown from there and gained momentum.

“I think there’s a growing realisation that Fakenham is the hub and the attractive gateway to north Norfolk and the whole of the north Norfolk coast.

“Fakenham shouldn’t be missing out on that.”

It’s hoped the event, which saw the Market Place closed off to traffic for the day, will become an annual event in Fakenham.
