The funeral of a fallen soldier attached to the Swanton Morley-based Light Dragoons is to be held next week.

L/Cpl Richard James Brandon, 24, of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), was killed in Afghanistan on September 2 when the vehicle in which he was travelling hit a roadside bomb.

His funeral will be at noon on Friday, October 2 at St George's Church, in Kidderminster.

L/Cpl Brandon, from Kidderminster, in the West Midlands, had been due to marry his fiance Emma-Jayne Webster next August.

It is being reported that Miss Webster wants the song L/Cpl Brandon had chosen for their first dance - Amazed by You by Bryan Adams - played as his coffin is carried into St George's Church.

Miss Webster, 27, told a West Midlands newspaper: 'He really liked the song and wanted it played at the wedding. I listened to it the other day and the lyrics are really nice.

'Before he went to Afghanistan, he also chose the songs he wanted playing at the crematorium if the worst should happen. He wanted Angels by Robbie Williams and Bon Jovi's Blaze of Glory.'

Following the church service family, friends, military and former military personnel will gather at Stourbridge Crematorium.

L/Cpl Brandon leaves a three-year-old daughter, Kaitlin, and two stepsons, Martyn, 12, and Liam, nine.
