Archant

Parts of Norfolk were given a cold reminder of the unpredictable British weather yesterday when weeks of blazing sunshine were interrupted by an onslaught of wind, hail and thunderstorms.

A weather warning was issued by the Met Office yesterday morning and yet the precipitation that followed in the afternoon caught everyone off guard.

Paddy Gallagher was driving in his van near Dereham when he drove into a hailstorm at around 4pm yesterday afternoon.

The downpour of giant stones left his van dented all over and cracked his windscreen, too.

The hailstones, which some have described as being the size of £1 coins and even golf balls, are caused by dramatic differences between ground and cloud temperatures.
