Holkham Beach is in the running for the UK's top picnic spot after winning the East Anglia regional title in the Warburtons Picnic Awards 2008.In a public vote Holkham - a favourite haunt of the Royal family - beat off competition from other sites across the region, including Wandlebury Country Park in Cambridgeshire, Dunwich Beach in Suffolk and last year's winner Sea Palling Beach.

Holkham Beach is in the running for the UK's top picnic spot after winning the East Anglia regional title in the Warburtons Picnic Awards 2008.

In a public vote Holkham - a favourite haunt of the Royal family - beat off competition from other sites across the region, including Wandlebury Country Park in Cambridgeshire, Dunwich Beach in Suffolk and last year's winner Sea Palling Beach. As a regional winner Holkham Beach will receive a £500 cash bursary from the family baker. If the East Anglia favourite goes on to become the nation's favourite, it will receive an additional £500 and a commemorative plaque.

Lord Coke, speaking on behalf of The Holkham Estate, said: “We are so pleased with this news - it is wonderful recognition of a beautiful area, and we thank the public for voting for us. We hope this will encourage even more visitors to come and picnic on Holkham Beach.”
