The first residents have moved into new affordable homes in Narborough, near Swaffham, which are part of a £4.3 million investment project.

The first 22 houses of a 33 home development in the village’s Denny’s Walk have now been completed, with the remaining homes due to be completed in 2019.

The scheme is being led by Flagship Homes and will eventually see 31 new energy efficient affordable homes replace 12 pre-fabricated post-war properties.

Among the first to move into the Narborough development are Lewis Taylor and Ashley Cainey, who are due to get married later this month and have just picked up their keys to one of the new affordable properties.

Lewis said: “It’s been a very busy time for us so it’s such a relief to be moved in. We were living in a privately rented property in the village and the lease was coming to an end, so we were so glad the Flagship properties became available.

“The new homes are great with a decent-sized garden. We’re now looking forward to our big day and then settling into our new home.”

Breckland Council supported the scheme and assisted Flagship in successfully applying for over £550,000 from central government to help deliver the £4.3m project.

The affordable houses are the latest to be built in Breckland, with a total of 105 affordable homes expected to be completed by the end of 2018-19.

A further 235 affordable homes were built in the district within the last two years and more than 500 affordable homes have now been given planning permission by Breckland Council and are expected to be delivered over the coming years.

Speaking about the scheme, project manager at Flagship Mike Cramp said: “It’s fantastic to see our development in Narborough starting to come to fruition and that so many families are settling into their new homes.

Cllr Peter Wilkinson, Breckland Council ward member for Narborough, said: “I’m delighted that the first homes at this development are now ready. They will be a real asset to local people who are looking for the first step on the property ladder. It is fantastic news for the village.”
