A family man and children's charity fundraiser who downloaded nearly 100 indecent images of children at his North Walsham home was jailed for six months on Friday.

Stephen Warr was said to have acted totally out of character when he downloaded 98 images and three short films involving indecent images of children.

Warr, 51 and who now lives in the Maltings, Dereham, was jailed at Norwich Crown Court after he had previously admitted 16 specimen counts of making indecent images of children, some as young as 10.

The court heard that the images were discovered after police carried out a raid on Mr Warr's North Walsham home last March after officers received information that illegal downloading was going on.

The computer used to download the images was used by the whole of Warr's family - including his wife, a school library worker who was using the computer to write a book.

Benjamin Brighouse, prosecuting, said: 'He (Warr) was initially looking for images of 16-year-olds and up but things seemed to have spiralled from there.'

During the sentencing character references from Warr's family and friends were handed to Judge Simon Barham in which the writers expressed their 'shock' at learning about his behaviour which was described as 'out of character' for him.

One of the letters also mentioned Warr's work in raising money for children.

Jonathan Dunne, mitigating, said that because of Warr's actions he would lose his job of 30 years and had bought shame to his family.

Mr Dunne: 'He has offended completely outside his normal character.'

The court was told that Warr had moved out of his North Walsham home to avoid embarrassment to his family and had already sought help.

Judge Barham said: 'There were a large number of indecent images.'

Warr was also disqualified from ever working with children.
