A man has been charged after assaulting a police officer in a Norfolk town.

Breckland Police said the man was arrested after the incident, which happened on Saturday evening in Dereham (November 25).

The police said the man would face court in December for “assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty”.

A post on Twitter from Breckland Police said: “Police officer assaulted in Dereham tonight - no injury to the officer but the suspect has ended up in the back of a van on his way to a cell.”

Another message read: “Male has been charged with assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty and will be appearing in court in December. Being assaulted is not part of the job and will be dealt with robustly.”
