Dereham Memorial Hall again resounded to the music of Dereham Band's Spring Concert under the baton of Tony Hampton.

A large appreciative audience was entertained for over two hours to a wide variety of music ranging from marches to film and show tunes.

Four of the band's talented musicians, Neil Smith, Brenda O'Dowd, Patrick Nichols and Chris Mulryne, played solo items.

A short programme was played by the Training Band which has been in existence for about nine months, and is always on the outlook for new members to boost the numbers.

Band chairman, Patrick Nichols, presented the Margaret Woods Rose Bowl to Brenda O'Dowd, the instigator of the Training Band. Tony Hampton, the musical director, surprised Patrick by presenting him with the RAF Swanton Morley Cup in recognition of his outstanding commitment to the band.

The band is looking forward to a busy year again with outdoor concerts in a variety of venues throughout the county including The Queen Mother's Garden Dereham on July 9 and August 20, the Sandringham visitors' centre on June 25 and September 3 and in Eaton Park in Norwich on July 16.

An addition to the programme this year is Brass on the Grass at Swanton Morley Village Hall on July 29, an opportunity to bring a picnic and enjoy a pleasant evening of music.

The year's concerts finish with the Christmas Concert back at the Memorial Hall on Saturday December 16. The annual charity collection will be made next day while playing carols at Morrisons.
