Wells lifeboat and police carried out a four-hour search after reports that an elderly woman was at risk of entering the sea at Morston.

Police were called at 10.45pm on Tuesday, with the lifeboat paged shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

The lifeboat launched at 0.22am and arrived at Morston Creek at 0.46am and joined other agencies, including Norfolk police, in the search.

Shortly after 1.30am a rescue helicopter arrived. The search was called off at 3am after the woman could not be located.

A spokeman from Norfolk Police said: “We did an extensive search with the coastguard and did not find anything or anyone.

“There were no reports of any missing people in the area either.”

They confirmed that the search would not start again unless new information was received.
