Five motorcycles worth a total £25,000 were stolen from a Fakenham shop, just a month and a half after they were last robbed.

Three motorbikes worth £20,000 were also taken from Matt Pope Motorcycles in April and Mr Pope said the robberies have had a huge impact on the business.

He said: “Two bikes that were stolen were already sold. We had to get two bikes in to replace them.

“It’s not just the bikes, we have to put extra money into our security and insurance premiums go up. After last time, we took steps to up our security.”

Thieves were believed to have used a stolen white Citroen panel van to take the motorbikes between 6pm on Sunday July 1 and 8.30am on Monday July 3.

The van used in the robbery was also stolen in Fakenham from a property on Millers Close, between 9pm on Sunday July 1 and 6.10am on Monday July 2.

Along with the bikes being taken, Mr Pope said some damage was also caused to the building,

He said: “They broke in and caused a bit of damage to the property. We are a steel building and they took the panels off the building to gain access.

“They are very calculated. They know where everything is.”

Fakenham is not usually a town with high crime rates. We recently reported that there is an average of five thefts per month, however the April robbery at Matt Pope Motorcycles also saw several other thefts take place across the town on the same night.

Mr Pope believes the recent burglary of his premises signals a trend of motorcycle thefts across England,

“It’s something which is happening up and down the country. They obviously know it is quite quiet round here after everyone has gone.

“For a relatively small business, this is having a big impact.”

With two of these incidents happening in such a short space of time, Mr Pope is worried that this could yet happen again.

He said: “It is a worry for us. We can’t really stop them.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Kim Love at Fakenham Police Station on 101, or alternatively contact crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
