A mum-of-two who has tirelessly fundraised for new play equipment has been given a community volunteer award.

Laura Woods of Whitelands, Fakenham, was presented with the honour at Fakenham's annual town assembly by town mayor, George Acheson.

Ms Woods initially approached the town council in June last year to ask for extra equipment at the Whitelands play area after spotting a need due to an increase in the number of children living there.

The council then applied through Tesco's Bags of Help scheme, and Ms Woods set up a Facebook page to encourage as many people as possible to support the bid for more play equipment.

She also organised a 'Body Shop party', a bingo and a raffle for a hamper from Tesco, raising £1,400 so far towards the play equipment.

Guest speakers at the assembly included Nigel Westmancott for Fakenham Charities, Harry Yates from the Museum of Gas and Local History and Lyn Maple from The Fakenham Community Archive.
