Reaching out to help people across the community.

That is the key aim of a Dereham charity which has unveiled a new centre in the heart of the town.

The Wellspring Family Centre in Neatherd Road - first built about 20 years ago as a social club - will host a range of community initiatives from mad activity days for young children to a drop-in venue for teenagers on Friday nights to a Wellcome project for people recovering from difficult periods in their lives.

The centre - which has a main hall and a range of smaller rooms - will also be available for other organisations to hire out for meetings or events.

The family centre is associated with Wellspring Church and leader Jon Beardon said: “Our vision is to create a distinctive community venue that Dereham can be proud of, which provides a welcoming, safe environment to serve the community. We want to make a difference.”

He said the search had been on since 2006 to find a centre and he had been “astounded” when the chance to buy the building from Dereham Christian Fellowship.

Mr Beardon said refurbishment work had already been carried out on the building and future plans included a new entrance, café area and having wireless broadband.
