A long-running project to build two petrol stations either side of the A47 near Dereham is again to go in front of planners more than 15 years after the scheme was first given the go-ahead.

A long-running project to build two petrol stations either side of the A47 near Dereham is again to go in front of planners more than 15 years after the scheme was first given the go-ahead.

Repeated delays have beset the project, to offer service station facilities, restaurant and motels on the busy trunk road at North Tuddenham, just east of Dereham, including a change of ownership of the land.

The latest set of plans given planning permission by Breckland Council would see two petrol stations either side of the A47, both their a restaurant and 20 bedroom motel.

But now owner Vince Somers, of Merton, near Watton, has asked for full planning permission for the petrol stations only, with “comprehensive roadside service facilities”, parking for seven cars, one disabled parking space and four lorries and access, according to the planning application.

It would be open 24 hours per day, seven days per week and would have storage for 480,000litres of petrol and diesel.

The development partner is Motor Fuel Ltd, a part of the Motor Fuel Group which has about 40 petrol stations throughout the UK, mostly BP branded, the application says.

Planning permission was first granted for petrol station developments for Roadside Developments in 1994.

The scheme had to be resubmitted in 2006 by the latest owner of the site, Mr Somers, because a deadline ran out.

It was brought before planners again last year and in January this year a scheme for two petrol stations either side of the A47 was given permission and included a 20 bedroom motel and restaurant on each side.

At the meeting at which planning permission was granted, Mr Somers' planner said work could start before the end of this year and that third parties had been found to take on separately the petrol stations and hotels.
