One of Dereham’s busiest roads has been closed again, this time for gas repair works.
The works on Norwich Road, next to the Mid Norfolk Railway, means that one lane of the road, heading towards the town centre, is closed with a diversion in place.
The works are being carried out by Cadent and a spokesperson for the company said: “Repairs have now been completed and reinstatement of the road must now be completed.
“This will be completed by our contractors as soon as possible but it takes time as the different levels of reinstatement must be allowed to set.
“The road should be fully open later this week - hopefully sometime tomorrow but this cannot be guaranteed.
“The lane closure was implemented to enable repairs to the gas main to take place. Temporary traffic lights were not an option due to the proximity to the railway crossing.
“We are sorry for any inconvenience people may be experiencing as a result of the work but it must be carried out to help ensure local people keep on enjoying safe and reliable gas supplies.”
Norwich Road has faced a spell of closures recently for a number of different works, most recently in October for carriageway resurfacing.
Motorists are also facing delays due to temporary traffic lights on Swaffham Road as a result of works being carried out by UK Power Networks, which is repairing electricity cables.
