Plans to turn a Swanton Morley village hall's fortunes around have taken a step further after plans were submitted to extend it to create a new children's nursery.
The parish council is asking Breckland Council for permission to build a 170 sq m extension on to the hall with a conservatory, disabled access ramps and new hard standing to improve the recycling area.
The new extension will be a big boost to the Under Fives club in the village.
Gina Eames, chairman of the village hall committee, said this would mean they could open for longer and be able to take on more children.
At the moment the group is open from 9am to noon with a lunch club Mondays to Fridays until 1pm.
From September they plan to open until 3pm.
The planning application is intended to be used as a nursery providing full day care for up to 20 children. The Millennium Garden will also be moved.
As part of the new plans a new conservatory has also been planned on the bar.
A second phase of work to the hall will see a new dance floor. Plans are also being worked on to see the caf� bar fitted out with internet access.
The work is part of a rejuvenation of the hall which has seen the Village Diner open, a breakfast and lunch facility open 9am to 3pm in the hall.
Over the past year the village hall committee has fixed the hall's leaky roof and installed a new heating system in a bid to turn the once struggling amenity into a vibrant community hub.
